My dog ate my Spanx. If you are a Spanx-wearer then you understand the direness of this situation. She ate just enough to make them unwearable (and don't worry, dog lovers, she is just fine). What happened to good old fashioned sock eating? Or trash? Or homework? Aren't dogs supposed to eat homework? They are definitely not supposed to eat Spanx.
Because of this situation, my pants today are lacking the normal smoothing and shaping that should happen. At least it is cold out and I have a long winter coat to cover anything that may jiggle or wiggle out of place, or well, in place.
My necklace is something I actually found as a Christmas gift for someone else. As soon as I saw it, I thought of the person I bought it for. But a funny thing happened when I tried it on, I fell in love with it as well. So, I purchased two. I've been seeing a lot of jewelry with large stones like this lately (even Target has a new collection). It's no secret I have a soft spot for statement jewelry. And Spanx.

New year, new outfit
I wish I could say I rang in the New Year wearing sequins and glitter. But, that didn't happen. Something along the lines of yoga pants and a movie is more accurate. At least I can say I started 2012 well rested from a full nights sleep. Now that is looking at the glass half full, right?
I can also say I started New Year's Day off right by hanging out with family and friends. It was a casual, family baking, tea drinking, friend talking, playground playing kind of day. What kind of outfit goes with that? Jeans, of course, and just to start the New Year off on the right foot, a striped turtleneck - you know, to really go wild and crazy. My outfit was a total mix of old and new. Just the way I like it and kind of fitting for the first day of the year.

Gobble Gobble
My strategy for Thanksgiving this year was to wear something tight fitting in hopes that the scale won't betray me in the morning. Last year I was 8 weeks post partum but still looked (and felt) like I had just given birth. I thought I would make up for it this year and actually get dressed for the occasion. Plus, there's nothing like adding a little Kardashian to your turkey day (via my very own round rump and thigh high boots). Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

Mom jeans
I have always loved the look of a dress layered with pants. Trendy or not. It doesn't matter to me as long as I love what I am wearing. (Speaking of love, I was wearing a dress over pants when I met my husband, so that makes it a lucky look too.) I don't follow many rules when it comes to fashion and tend to wear what appeals to me. For better or worse.
So, that's why I am wearing my mom jeans. You know, the same style Jessica Simpson wore when she got berated by the media. That may scare most folks off. But, I am not most folks. Not only am I wearing them, but I decided it was okay to pair them with an orange dress and my pink/blue hued necklace and belt. And, yes, you are seeing my black turtleneck again and you will be seeing it many more times over the course of the fall/winter. It's one of the easiest ways to bring summer into fall. Someday I will probably even wear my mom jeans so you can see them in all their belly button skimming glory. That, my friends, will be a whole other blog post.
P.S. A pair of wide leg jeans doesn't only scream retro and mom jeans. It apparently also sets preschoolers into a tizzy wondering if I have any feet. Just sayin. And, yes. I do have feet. Bedecked in some awesome black booties, thank you very much.

I'm a weekend Maxxinista
Have you ever been shopping and noticed something in someone else's cart that you want? And then follow them around the store hoping they will decide they don't want it so you can scoop in and take it off their hands? Please, for the sake of my pride, say yes. Because this happened to me the other night at T.J.Maxx. Unfortunately for me, I think the lady was on to me and refused to put the item down and even stopped in every mirror to hold it up to her and flaunt her find. The nerve of some people.
That's what happens when TJ's marks down their The Runway at Maxx section. Are you familiar? In the words of Rachel Zoe, it's bananas. Designer and couture fashion at a fraction of the price. Fractions, people! My husband says I get a heightened sense of math skills when I am shopping. It's a gift.
This Elizabeth & James top was one of my deals and only $29. It was perfect for Saturday errands with the family. Expect to see more of it. A lot more.
